License Agreement
This program is provided free of charge to Wildcat! sysops. This program is
NOT public domain as I retain all rights to the program. The program can
be distributed freely and Hub sysops may bundle the .ZIP containing this
program with other files to distribute to their nodes.
Warning!
This program should be only used as a tool to find problems in your Tnet
configuration. It should not replace all other sysop checks and problems
found using TestCFG should be investiagated further before taking any
drastic measures.
What is TestCFG?
When we started Net Mail on the Wildnet mail network, I found that there was a
great deal of discussion about cross-echoed messages. I then came up with the
idea for TestCFG which hopefully will help some sysops find mistakes before they
cause any trouble. When run, TestCFG first reads your last .QWK packet from
your HUB. It this reads your conference description file as set in MakeWild.
When finished, a list of all the conferences you are echoing are displayed on
the screen along with the corresponding HUB conference. A list of HUB
conferences that you are NOT carrying is also listed. Since this is based upon
what you set in MakeWild and what your HUB sets in TomCat, there is little room
for misunderstanding.
How do I run TestCFG?
This program is a rough first draft. As I get input, I will add more
flexibility. Until then, TestCFG requires a few things listed below.
1) TestCFG must be run from your NODE HOME directory. This allows TestCFG to
read your CONFDESC.DAT. Putting TestCFG into another directory with a copy of
CONFDESC.DAT is not advisable as that could introduce mistakes as changes are
made.
2) You MUST have a properly named .QWK packet downloaded from your hub in the
directory specified in the *.CFG file. That packet can have 1 message or a
1000 but it must be there.
3) TestCFG has only been tested with .QWK's packed with PKZIP or ARJ. It may
work with others but I don't know.
Once you meet the above conditions and you are in the node home directory, type
TESTCFG [NAME].CFG where [name] is the name your hub uses to name its .QWK
packets and the name of your .CFG file. In our case, we type...
TESTCFG FANTASY
which tests our FANTASY.CFG by reading FANTASY.QWK.
The first screen you get will be a list of conferences you are carrying along
with the hub conference YOU have configured to import/export from/to. You can
press ENTER when highlighted on any item to see the export and import tags that
you have set. Press ESCAPE when done with the first screen. The second screen
shows the list of HUB conferences that you are not currently configured to
carry. If you hear a beep and don't see the second screen, that means you are
configured for all conferences.
Output to A File
To output the information to a file, type the file name after a / on the
command line. When putting the output in a file, you will not see the
information on the local screen. To read FANTASY.CFG and output to a file
called OUTPUT.TXT, we would type:
TESTCFG FANTASY /OUTPUT.TXT
Where do these conference names come from?
Your conference names come from the ones you set in MakeWild and are the long
descriptions. The HUB's conference name is the short name the hub sysop
specified in TomCat. I can't get the hub's long names because the .QWK packet
only lists the long names for conferences that have messages. At times, the
short names can be cryptic but they should be easy to figure out. By using the
names in your data files and a current copy of the ones in the hub's, there is
little chance for error.
Support
This program is FREE! Since I am not asking for a registration, I only ask that
you don't call me and ask for me to call you voice or call your BBS. I am also
new to net mail so your hub is probably a better source for general Tnet
information. I will be happy to support this program through Crown Jewel BBS at
813-696-2444 (300-14,400bps V32.bis), through Wildnet, or Mustang's HQ BBS.
Shameless Ad for my not-free programs
Time Door is a full featured time banking, gambling and transfer door which now
has a byte bank. There are so many options that I won't waste your time listing
them all. Just look for TDOOR*.* on Crown Jewel BBS or Mustang's BBS.
Poster is a posting contest that is designed to get your users posting. Using
bulletins and time prizes (in conjuction with Time Door), Poster gets your users
